Snowy Thoughts And Other Musings

Snowy Thoughts

The other day I wrote this on my phone when I had no internet. It was my second day at L’Abri and I was adjusting to not having much contact with the world, but I was definitely also feeling the excitement and joy of settling into a new place.

It’s study time and I’m sitting in my chair after spending the first hour journaling. I forgot how many thoughts swirl around my head at L’Abri. There are just so many people and lectures and interesting conversations. So much to process and so much to learn, but in a good and satisfying way not in an overwhelming way.

Currently, there are big fat snowflakes falling from the sky. The kind that I know won’t stick because it’s not below freezing yet, but also it’s Switzerland so maybe the temperature will actually drop! (Is there anything more southern then getting ridiculously excited about the snow?). I’m watching them fall in front of this tall and dark evergreen tree. With the snow, rolled in a dense fog and the mountains our now obscured from view. But my heart is still pretty happy because maybe the snow will stick and the fog will roll away and I’ll get to see my mountains with a fresh coat. Wouldn’t that be delightful?

It’s funny how such a small thing topped my joy off today, to the point where I had to write it down because I had to share this with the ones I love. Anyway I better get to the actual studying part of this time.

Au reviour for now my friends.

An Embarrassing Moment with Sam

I think I’m the type of person who gets embarrassed pretty easily, but I also like to laugh at it later. So hopefully by the end of this blog there will be a collection of embarrasing moments… or ehh hopefully not but we shall see.

My first one comes from traveling to L’Abri. When I landed in Geneva there was a bus from the train to the airport. As we all crowded on I was disappointed to be standing in the middle of people with no where to hang onto. As the bus started I braced myself and I was completely fine. “Ok, I can do this.” I thought to myself. Except the bus kept starting and stopping and at one point it had been stopped long enough for me to not be paying attention and since I wasn’t prepared I kind of just instinctively grabbed at whatever was around me which happened to be a women’s bag.

Luckily I did not fall, but the woman definitely glared at me. The man next to me asked me if I was ok and as if that wasn’t embarrassing enough..I realized there was indeed a pole right behind me the whole time.

Instagram Worthy Quote of the Day

We were having a formal lunch discussion and P.O. one of the workers said “It doesn’t take much effort to have an opinion, but it takes a lot of work to have an informed one.” That stuck with me, especially in a world full of social media and easy commenting.
